Castor Oil Packs
for Menopause Support.
The transition is natural. The support should be too.

Menopause is
a transition —
and it deserves
support.
Menopause marks the end of the menstrual cycle — a natural biological transition that every woman experiences, typically between the ages of 45 and 55. It is not a disease. It is not a decline. But it is a significant hormonal shift — and the symptoms that accompany it are real, wide-ranging, and often underaddressed.
Hot flushes. Night sweats. Sleep disruption. Mood changes. Joint pain. Lower back ache. Brain fog. Weight changes. Vaginal dryness. A body that feels different in ways that are difficult to articulate — and even more difficult to explain to those who have not experienced it.
These are not signs that the body is failing. They are signs that the body is navigating a profound hormonal transition — and that it needs consistent, thoughtful support to do so well.
As oestrogen levels shift during the transition, the liver's role in metabolising and clearing hormonal fluctuations becomes more critical than ever. Supporting the liver — consistently, over time — is the foundation of this page.

Significantly documented by one of the most extensively referenced natural health practitioners of the century — who devoted considerable attention to castor oil packs on the liver as a foundational supportive wellness practice for hormonal health.
Menopause is one of the most widely discussed applications of castor oil packs in the global wellness community — with women sharing how consistent liver and lower back support has helped them navigate the transition alongside their medical care and, where relevant, hormone replacement therapy.

How castor oil packs work.
Used consistently and explored in modern research, castor oil packs may offer the following for those navigating menopause — as a gentle, complementary practice used alongside proper medical care.
During menopause, oestrogen levels decline gradually — the ovaries reduce production, though small amounts continue to be produced by the adrenal glands and fat tissue. The liver continues to metabolise what remains. Supporting liver health during midlife is genuinely worthwhile — not because the liver is causing menopausal symptoms, but because declining oestrogen increases the liver's vulnerability. Castor oil packs over the liver area are used here as a traditional complementary wellness practice — for warmth, rest, and the ritual of consistent self-care — alongside, and not as a replacement for, medical menopause care.
Declining oestrogen is associated with increased systemic inflammation — oestrogen has natural anti-inflammatory properties, and its reduction can leave the body more vulnerable to inflammation-driven symptoms such as joint pain and back ache. Castor oil's primary active compound — ricinoleic acid — has been widely noted for its natural anti-inflammatory properties. Applied topically, it may offer localised support for inflammation in the areas where it is placed.
The lymphatic system plays a role in clearing inflammatory compounds and metabolic waste from the body. Castor oil is traditionally associated with supporting lymphatic movement. Applied over the abdomen or lower back, the gentle pressure and warmth may offer gentle complementary support as part of a broader wellness routine during menopause.
Menopause is not something to push through. It is something to move through — with support, consistency, and care.
Lower back pain is one of the most commonly reported symptoms of menopause — driven by declining oestrogen affecting bone density, joint health, and pelvic floor function. A castor oil pack placed over the lower back is thought to support circulation and reduce inflammation in this region. Many women navigating menopause find the lower back placement particularly effective when used on evenings when back discomfort is most prominent.
The nervous system is profoundly affected by the hormonal changes of menopause. Sleep disruption, mood instability, and heightened stress responses are all partly driven by the effect of declining oestrogen on the brain and nervous system. The ritual of a castor oil pack — warmth, stillness, intentional rest — engages the parasympathetic nervous system, the state in which the body heals and restores. Practised consistently, it is one of the most accessible tools for nervous system regulation during this transition.
The method.
Hormonal metabolism & oestrogen clearance
Place your hand flat against the right side of your chest so your pinky finger aligns with the very bottom edge of your ribcage. Your hand is now resting exactly over your liver. Position your castor oil pack right there — directly over those lower ribs. A standard-sized pack will naturally be large enough to cover the lower right ribs and drape slightly down into the upper right quadrant of your abdomen.
Back pain & pelvic support
Place the pack over the lower back — the area just above the tailbone. Use on alternating evenings with the liver placement, or on evenings when lower back discomfort is most prominent.
You may also keep the pack on overnight without heat — simply the flannel resting over the placement area as you sleep.
Using both placements? Additional flannel pieces are available.
For best results, use at least three times per week — many people find four or five times fits naturally as the ritual becomes part of their evening. Menopause support is built through consistency over time, not a single session.
A few things to keep in mind.
Begin with shorter sessions of 20 to 30 minutes and observe how your body responds before extending to longer sessions. Perform a patch test on a small area of skin at least 24 hours before your first full use. Discontinue if any irritation or adverse reaction occurs.
Castor oil packs are a traditional wellness practice and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or replace medical care for menopause or any related condition. If you are taking hormone replacement therapy or any medication, or are under medical supervision, please consult your healthcare provider before incorporating castor oil packs into your routine.
