Everything you need to know about castor oil packs, our oil, and our flannel.
The Basics
A castor oil pack is one of the oldest and most widely used wellness rituals in the world. It involves applying cold pressed castor oil on the body, covering the area with undyed and unbleached cotton flannel — for a period of time — with or without external heat for absorption. Simple, grounding, and deeply intentional.
Castor oil has been used for thousands of years across Egyptian, Ayurvedic, and traditional medicine systems. The practice of using castor oil packs specifically has been documented widely — from ancient texts to twentieth century naturopathic medicine. Today, hundreds of videos on YouTube show people across the world incorporating them into their weekly self-care routines. We are simply bringing that conversation home to Pakistan.
Castor oil packs have traditionally been used to support relaxation, comfort, and everyday wellness. Many people use them as part of a regular self-care routine for unwinding, gentle rest, and more intentional living. We encourage you to explore the global conversation around castor oil packs — a simple search on YouTube for "castor oil packs for..." will show you just how widely this ritual is practised and discussed.
Using Your Pack
Apply approximately 2 to 3 tablespoons of cold pressed castor oil directly to the desired area of skin. Slightly massage it. Cover with your undyed, unbleached cotton flannel. Place a hot water bottle or heating pad gently over the flannel for 30 minutes to one hour. Relax and allow the warmth to work alongside the oil. After your heating session, you may leave the flannel in place overnight if comfortable. Use with heat three to five times per week, or without heat as an alternative.
A few things to keep in mind: always apply to the abdomen on an empty stomach or at least two hours after a meal. If you are new to castor oil packs, start with shorter sessions before trying overnight use. Castor oil can stain fabric and surfaces — keep a dedicated cloth or towel nearby.
Most people use castor oil packs three to five times a week as part of their regular self-care routine. You can adjust frequency based on what feels right for your body and lifestyle.
Some people do wear packs overnight. Overnight castor oil packs should not be used with heat. We recommend starting with shorter sessions of 30 to 60 minutes to understand how your body responds before trying overnight use.
If applying the pack to your abdomen, we recommend doing so on an empty stomach or at least two hours after a meal.
The Oil
Cold pressing is a slow, mechanical extraction process that uses less heat and no chemicals. This matters because castor oil's primary active compound — ricinoleic acid — is heat sensitive. Most commercially available castor oil is refined or hexane-extracted, which compromises a significant portion of its natural fatty acids. Our oil is cold pressed, unrefined, and hexane-free, so every natural compound is preserved exactly as it was in the seed.
Unrefined means the oil has not been processed, bleached, deodorised, or altered after pressing. What you receive is the oil in its most natural, most complete form — carrying the full character of the castor seed itself.
Hexane is a petrochemical solvent commonly used in commercial oil extraction. It allows manufacturers to extract more oil at lower cost, but it introduces chemical residues and strips the oil of its natural compounds. Our oil uses no hexane at any stage of production.
No — and this is an important distinction. Cold pressed castor oil and refined castor oil are not the same thing. Cold pressed castor oil is unrefined and retains its full natural concentration of ricinoleic acid. In this unrefined state, it is too potent for safe internal consumption. Cold pressed castor oil is for external use only.
Two reasons, both matter. Glass — Castor oil is reactive by nature; over time, plastic can leach chemical residues into whatever it holds. Glass is completely non-reactive. Amber Glass — Castor oil is sensitive to light. Amber glass filters out the wavelengths of light that cause degradation, keeping the oil pure and potent over time.
The Flannel
More than most people realise. Cold pressed castor oil is highly absorbent and reactive to its environment. It does not simply rest on the surface of fabric — it penetrates it. And in doing so, it carries whatever the cloth contains inward with it. Dyes, bleach, and chemical finishes on fabric can all be absorbed through the skin during extended pack use. This is why the purity of the flannel is as important as the purity of the oil.
Because anything else means chemicals sitting against your skin, soaked in oil, for an hour or more at a time. Our flannel is 100% natural cotton — warm, breathable, and completely free of dyes, bleach, and finishing chemicals.
Cotton flannel has a thick, napped texture that absorbs and holds oil exceptionally well. It is naturally breathable — providing gentle warmth without excessive heat buildup — and soft enough for prolonged contact on sensitive skin. No synthetic fabric comes close to matching these qualities for this specific purpose.
We strongly advise against it. Synthetic fabrics — polyester or blended materials — should never be used for castor oil packs. They do not absorb oil the way natural fibres do, restrict breathability, and when warmed, can leach their own chemical residues into the skin.
Our flannel measures 15 inches by 30 inches — sized for comfortable abdominal use with enough cloth to fold and layer as needed.
Yes. With proper care, the flannel can be reused many times. You can wash it after every 8 to 10 uses or when needed. Hand wash gently with a mild detergent and warm water. Avoid fabric softeners, bleach, or harsh chemicals. Air dry fully before storing in a clean, sealed container.
