The lymphatic system & you

Bloating.
Puffiness.
Fatigue.
Brain fog.
The lymphatic
system may be
at the centre
of all of it.

The body has its own drainage system. Most people never think about it — until they need to.

The lymphatic system is the body's waste clearance network. No pump. It moves through breathing and movement. When it slows, the effects are felt everywhere — bloating, fatigue, puffiness, brain fog, dull skin, and recurring infections. Often overlooked. Almost always involved.

Castor oil packs do not force detoxification. They support what the body already does — naturally, consistently, and gently over time.

The Traditional Connection

Lymphatic drainage — one of the most foundational
applications of this ritual.

Ebers Papyrus

Castor oil recorded in one of the oldest known medical texts in the world — used externally for its wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and detoxifying properties. The external application of castor oil for clearing and cleansing the body is one of its oldest documented uses.

Edgar Cayce

Significantly documented by one of the most extensively referenced natural health practitioners of the century — who devoted considerable attention to castor oil packs and their effect on the lymphatic system. Cayce's work specifically noted that castor oil packs were associated with increased lymphocyte production — white blood cells central to immune function and lymphatic drainage.

Lymphatic drainage is one of the most widely discussed applications of castor oil packs globally — with a community spanning natural health practitioners, integrative medicine specialists, and everyday people sharing how consistent use has shifted their experience of bloating, fatigue, skin congestion, and immunity.

The conversation is wide, honest, and growing. We are simply bringing it home to Pakistan.

Why Castor Oil Packs & Lymphatic Drainage

How castor oil packs work.

Used consistently and explored in modern research, castor oil packs may offer the following for those supporting their lymphatic system — as a gentle, complementary practice used alongside proper medical care.

Ricinoleic Acid & Lymphatic Movement

Castor oil's primary active compound — ricinoleic acid — has been widely noted for its natural anti-inflammatory properties and its traditional association with supporting lymphatic movement. When applied over lymph-rich areas of the body — the liver, the lower abdomen, the axillary region — it is thought to stimulate the flow of lymph through the local vessels, helping the body move stagnant fluid and waste toward the elimination organs more efficiently.

Lymphocyte Production

Dr. William McGarey — primary care physician and author of The Oil That Heals — found in two separate double-blind studies that patients using castor oil packs had significant increases in lymphocyte production compared to placebo packs. Lymphocytes are the immune system's disease-fighting cells — produced in the thymus gland, spleen, and lymph nodes — responsible for identifying and clearing pathogens, waste, and abnormal cells from the tissues. Supporting their production is one of the most meaningful things the ritual may offer for immune and lymphatic health.

Liver Support — the Central Processing Organ

The liver is the destination for much of what the lymphatic system collects. Everything the lymph carries — waste, toxins, hormonal metabolites, excess proteins — arrives at the liver for processing. When the liver is sluggish or overburdened, lymphatic drainage backs up — and the whole system slows. Supporting the liver with a castor oil pack is the foundation of any lymphatic drainage practice.

The lymphatic system and the liver are partners. You cannot support one without supporting the other.

Reduced Inflammation & Congestion

Chronic low-grade inflammation is one of the primary causes of lymphatic congestion. Ricinoleic acid's natural anti-inflammatory properties may help reduce the inflammatory environment that slows lymphatic flow — creating conditions in which the system can drain more freely and efficiently over time.

Rest & the Parasympathetic State

The lymphatic system moves most efficiently when the body is in a state of rest and parasympathetic activation. Stress, tension, and chronic sympathetic activation slow lymphatic flow. The ritual of a castor oil pack — warmth, stillness, intentional rest — engages the parasympathetic nervous system, creating the physiological conditions in which lymphatic drainage is most naturally supported.

Castor Oil Pack
How to Use Your Castor Oil Pack for Lymphatic Drainage

The method.

What you will need
100% Cold Pressed Castor Oil
100% Undyed & Unbleached Cotton Flannel
A hot water bottle or electric heating pad — for liver and lower abdomen only
A comfortable, quiet place to lie down
Placement 1 — Liver

Primary — for all

Place your hand flat against the right side of your chest so your pinky finger aligns with the very bottom edge of your ribcage. Your hand is now resting exactly over your liver. Position your castor oil pack right there — directly over those lower ribs. A standard-sized pack will naturally be large enough to cover the lower right ribs and drape slightly down into the upper right quadrant of your abdomen. This is the foundation of lymphatic drainage support. Begin here.

Placement 2 — Lower abdomen

Optional — pelvic lymphatic congestion

Place your hand flat just below the navel. Where your hand ends — the area from below to just above the pubic bone — is where your pack will sit. Particularly relevant for women experiencing pelvic bloating, heaviness, or congestion.

Placement 3 — Armpit

Optional — no heat — upper body drainage

The axillary lymph nodes sit in the armpit and drain the arm, chest, breast tissue, and upper back. Cut a small piece of flannel and apply one tablespoon of castor oil to it. Place the oiled flannel gently into the armpit — resting against the skin, without pressure. Do not apply heat. Body heat is sufficient. Rest with the arm slightly away from the body. 20 to 30 minutes.

How to apply
01
Pour two to three tablespoons of cold pressed castor oil directly onto the placement area — liver or lower abdomen. For the armpit — apply one tablespoon to a small cut piece of flannel before placing.
02
Massage gently for a minute or two — just enough to let the oil settle into the skin before the flannel is placed. For the armpit — no massage needed, simply place the flannel gently.
03
Lay your undyed, unbleached cotton flannel over the oiled area. Fold any remaining flannel back over itself — this keeps the hot water bottle clean and helps contain the warmth. For the armpit — rest the flannel gently in place without folding or compressing.
04
Place your hot water bottle or electric heating pad on top — for the liver and lower abdomen placements only. Do not apply heat to the armpit placement.
05
Lie down and rest for at least 30 minutes — many people extend to 45 or 60 minutes. For the armpit placement — 20 to 30 minutes is sufficient.

You may also keep the liver pack on overnight without heat — simply the flannel resting over the liver area as you sleep. Do not use the armpit placement overnight.

Using multiple placements? Additional flannel pieces are available.

For best results, use at least three times per week — many people find four or five times fits naturally as the ritual becomes part of their evening. Lymphatic drainage is built through consistency over time, not a single session.

When to Use

A few things to keep in mind.

Evening — when the day has settled and the body is already moving toward rest. The lymphatic system drains most efficiently during rest and parasympathetic activation.
On an empty stomach — apply at least two hours after a meal for best comfort.
For women — do not use castor oil packs over the abdomen and lower back during active menstruation, throughout pregnancy and if you are trying to concieve. During pregnancy and while nursing, you may use on other areas after you have consulted your healthcare provider first. Check fertility page for information on when you can apply and pause use on abdomen and lower back. If you are undergoing IVF or IUI — do not use castor oil packs, particularly on lower abdomen and lower back.
Year-round — lymphatic health is a long-term practice. Consistency over months is where the benefit lives.
A Note for First-Time Users

Begin with shorter sessions of 20 to 30 minutes and observe how your body responds before extending to longer sessions. Perform a patch test on a small area of skin at least 24 hours before your first full use. Discontinue if any irritation or adverse reaction occurs.
