Hair growth & you

The hair
that thinned.
The growth
that slowed.
One oil
at a time.

Hair thinning, slow growth, and breakage are among the most commonly experienced hair concerns. Whether it is postpartum shedding, stress-related thinning, a scalp that never quite recovered, or hair that simply stopped growing as it once did — castor oil is what millions have reached for.

Widely used. Results widely reported. The evidence is growing.

Scalp massage with castor oil is one of the most consistently shared hair care practices across generations and cultures. People use it weekly and come back to it.

Traditional Use

Castor oil has been used for hair and scalp health across South Asian, African, Caribbean, and Middle Eastern traditions for generations — applied to the scalp, massaged in, and left overnight as a nourishing treatment. This is not a recent discovery. It is a practice that predates modern haircare.

Why Castor Oil & Hair Growth

How castor oil works on the scalp and hair.

Widely used and explored in emerging research, castor oil may offer the following for hair growth and scalp health — as a consistent weekly practice. Consistency over weeks and months is where the benefit lives.

Scalp Circulation

Castor oil's primary active compound - Ricinoleic acid - supports blood flow to the scalp when massaged in. Improved circulation means more oxygen and nutrients reaching the hair follicles — the structures from which hair grows. A well-nourished follicle produces stronger, healthier hair.

Scalp Moisture & Health

A dry, irritated scalp is one of the most common contributors to slow hair growth and increased shedding. Castor oil's deep moisturising properties help address scalp dryness, reduce flaking, and create a healthier environment for hair to grow from.

Reduced Breakage

Castor oil coats the hair shaft, reducing moisture loss and increasing its flexibility. Hair that retains moisture breaks less. For many people, the most visible early result of castor oil use is significantly less breakage, which allows existing length to be retained.

Thickness & Density

People who use castor oil on their scalp consistently report thicker, denser hair over time. The pattern is specific and consistent.

How to Use Castor Oil for Hair Growth

The method.

Scalp application

Apply directly to the scalp — parting the hair in sections to ensure the oil reaches the scalp rather than sitting on the hair shaft. Focus on areas of thinning or slow growth. The scalp is the target, not the hair length.

Amount & consistency

Castor oil is thick. Start with an amount according to hair density - usually two to three tablespoons. Use once or twice a week consistently rather than daily. Consistency over weeks and months is where results appear.

01
Part the hair into sections to expose the scalp. Apply castor oil onto the scalp using fingertips, working section by section.
02
Massage gently into the scalp for 3 to 5 minutes using circular motions. This is important — the massage itself supports circulation. Do not rush this step.
03
If desired, apply any remaining oil to the ends of the hair to reduce breakage and add moisture. This is optional — for hair growth, scalp is the priority. If your goal is shiny, strong hair, focus also on the length of the hair.
04
Leave for 30 minutes to 2 hours.
05
Wash out thoroughly with a gentle shampoo. Castor oil is thick and may require two rounds of shampooing to remove completely. Follow with your usual conditioner.

To make castor oil easier to apply and wash out, mix it with a lighter carrier oil — coconut oil, argan oil, or jojoba oil — in a 1:1 ratio. This does not reduce its effectiveness and makes the application significantly easier.

When to Use

A few things to keep in mind.

Patience — hair growth is slow. Most people notice a reduction in shedding and breakage within four to six weeks. Visible growth changes typically appear after three to six months of consistent use.
Patch test first — perform a patch test on the inner wrist or behind the ear at least 24 hours before first scalp application. Discontinue if any irritation occurs.
For women during menstruation, pregnancy or nursing — scalp application is safe during menstruation. During pregnancy or nursing, consult your healthcare provider before use.
Not a medical treatment — if hair loss is sudden, significant, or accompanied by other symptoms, please consult a healthcare provider or dermatologist. Castor oil is a supportive practice, not a medical treatment for hair loss conditions.
A Note for First-Time Users

Begin with a small amount and observe how your scalp responds. Perform a patch test on the inner wrist at least 24 hours before your first full application. Discontinue if any irritation or adverse reaction occurs.
