Castor Oil Packs
for Fertility.
For the woman who is preparing her body for conception.
The conversation is already happening. We are simply bringing it home to Pakistan.
Before conception
comes
preparation.
The uterus that receives well is one that has been consistently nourished, supported, and cared for. Fertility — whether you are just beginning to try, or have been on this journey for some time — is not simply a question of timing. It is a question of the environment the body has created for conception to take place.
Castor oil packs, used in the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle, are one of the oldest and most widely discussed complementary practices for women supporting their reproductive health. They do not replace medical care. They work alongside it — addressing the circulation, inflammation, hormonal clearance, and pelvic congestion that can affect the reproductive environment.
A well-nourished uterus, a well-supported liver, and a well-regulated nervous system are the foundations of a body that is ready to conceive.

Castor oil recorded in one of the oldest known medical texts in the world — used externally for its wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and skin-protective properties. Its use for abdominal and women's health is among its most consistently recorded traditional applications across ancient cultures.

Fertility is one of the most widely discussed applications of castor oil packs in the global wellness community. Women at every stage of the conception journey — from those just beginning to try, to those navigating longer or more complex paths — share how this ritual has become part of their preparation practice alongside medical care.

How castor oil packs work.
Used in the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle and explored in modern research, castor oil packs may offer the following for those supporting their fertility — as a gentle, complementary practice used alongside proper medical care.
Healthy circulation to the uterus is one of the most important factors in creating a receptive environment for conception. When a castor oil pack is placed over the lower abdomen, warmth and gentle absorption are thought to bring increased blood flow to the uterus and surrounding reproductive tissues — nourishing the uterine lining, supporting healthy follicle development, and helping address the congestion that can affect implantation.
Chronic low-grade inflammation in the pelvic region is one of the most significant — and most overlooked — contributors to fertility challenges. Castor oil's primary active compound — ricinoleic acid — has been widely noted for its natural anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Applied consistently over the lower abdomen during the follicular phase, ricinoleic acid may help reduce the inflammatory environment that can interfere with ovulation and implantation.
Pelvic congestion — a buildup of stagnant fluid, inflammatory compounds, and hormonal metabolites in the pelvic region — can affect the health of the reproductive environment. Castor oil is traditionally associated with supporting lymphatic movement, helping the body clear what it needs to clear more efficiently. Addressing pelvic congestion consistently during the follicular phase is one of the most widely cited reasons women with fertility challenges incorporate this ritual into their routine.
A supported liver creates a better hormonal environment. A better hormonal environment creates better conditions for conception.
Hormonal balance is foundational to fertility. The liver is responsible for metabolising and clearing excess hormones — including oestrogen and progesterone — and when it is functioning well, the hormonal environment that governs the menstrual cycle is better regulated. This directly affects ovulation quality, cycle regularity, and the body's ability to maintain a pregnancy in its earliest stages.
The nervous system plays a profound and underappreciated role in fertility. Chronic stress elevates cortisol — which suppresses reproductive hormones, disrupts ovulation, and creates a physiological state in which the body deprioritises conception. The ritual of a castor oil pack — warmth, stillness, intentional rest — engages the parasympathetic nervous system. Practised consistently during the follicular phase, it signals safety to a nervous system that has been under sustained stress.

Uterine & ovarian support
Place your hand flat just below the navel. Where your hand ends — the area from below to just above the pubic bone — is where your pack will sit. This is where the uterus and ovaries are located. Important: the timing of this placement matters when trying to conceive. See When to Use section below.
Hormonal clearance
Place your hand flat against the right side of your chest so your pinky finger aligns with the very bottom edge of your ribcage. Your hand is now resting exactly over your liver. Position your castor oil pack right there — directly over those lower ribs. A standard-sized pack will naturally be large enough to cover the lower right ribs and drape slightly down into the upper right quadrant of your abdomen.
Pelvic circulation — optional
Many women find that applying the pack to the lower back — the area just above the tailbone — supports pelvic circulation alongside the lower abdomen placement. This is optional and can be used on alternating evenings.
You may also keep the pack on overnight without heat — simply the flannel resting over the placement area as you sleep.
Using multiple placements? Additional flannel pieces are available.
For best results, use consistently throughout the follicular phase — at least three times per week after bleeding stops until ovulation. Fertility support is built through consistency over several cycles, not a single session.
Understanding your cycle.
Menstruation begins
Day 1 of your cycle is the first day of your period. Bleeding typically lasts 3 to 7 days. Do not use castor oil packs during menstruation.
Follicular Phase
Begins on Day 1 and continues until ovulation. During this phase the body is building the uterine lining and maturing a follicle. The safe and recommended window for castor oil packs is after bleeding stops — typically Days 5 through 14.
Ovulation
The mature follicle releases an egg. This is the fertile window. Stop castor oil packs at ovulation — do not use on or after ovulation day if actively trying to conceive.
Luteal Phase
After ovulation the body prepares for potential implantation. Do not use castor oil packs during the luteal phase if actively trying to conceive.
New cycle begins
If conception has not occurred, menstruation begins and the cycle restarts. Resume castor oil packs after bleeding stops.
If you are undergoing IVF or IUI — do not use castor oil packs.
Please consult your healthcare practitioner before incorporating castor oil packs into your fertility support practice.
Begin with shorter sessions of 20 to 30 minutes and observe how your body responds before extending to longer sessions. Perform a patch test on a small area of skin at least 24 hours before your first full use. Discontinue if any irritation or adverse reaction occurs.
Castor oil packs are a traditional wellness practice and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or replace medical care for any fertility-related condition. If you are trying to conceive, are undergoing fertility treatment, or have been diagnosed with any reproductive condition, please consult your healthcare provider before incorporating castor oil packs into your routine. Do not use during the luteal phase (after ovulation) if you are trying to conceive — stop use after ovulation and resume after your period begins. Do not use during pregnancy.
