Endometriosis & you

For years,
Endometriosis
may have been
dismissed.
Normalised.
Misunderstood.

Endometriosis affects an estimated 1 in 10 women of reproductive age — yet on average it takes 7 to 10 years to receive a diagnosis. In that time, symptoms are often attributed to normal period pain, stress, or sensitivity. They are none of those things.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it — on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel, bladder, and elsewhere. This tissue responds to hormonal changes just as the uterine lining does — thickening, breaking down, and bleeding — but with nowhere to go. The result is inflammation, scarring, and pain that can be felt throughout the body and throughout the cycle, not just during menstruation.

Painful periods. Chronic pelvic pain. Fatigue that has no obvious cause. Pain during intercourse. Bloating. Bowel and bladder symptoms. Fertility challenges. Not every woman with endometriosis experiences all of these. But all of them are real, and none of them should be dismissed.

A well-supported body — hormonally, lymphatically, and neurologically — is foundational to managing endometriosis alongside proper medical care.

The Traditional Connection

Endometriosis — one of the most widely discussed
applications of this ritual.

Castor oil recorded in one of the oldest known medical texts in the world — used externally for its wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and detoxifying properties.

Significantly documented by one of the most extensively referenced natural health practitioners of the century — who devoted considerable attention to castor oil packs on the abdomen as a supportive wellness practice for women's reproductive health.

Endometriosis has one of the most active and honest communities in the global wellness space. Women have been sharing their experiences with castor oil packs — what shifted, how they incorporated the ritual, what changed over months of consistent practice — alongside their medical treatment.

The conversation around complementary support for it is wide, active, and growing. We are simply bringing it home to Pakistan.

Why Castor Oil Packs & Endometriosis

How castor oil packs work.

Used consistently and explored in modern research, castor oil packs may offer the following for those navigating endometriosis — as a gentle, complementary practice used alongside proper medical care.

Ricinoleic Acid & Inflammation

Endometriosis is fundamentally an inflammatory condition. Castor oil's primary active compound — ricinoleic acid — has been widely noted for its natural anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. When applied consistently over the lower abdomen, ricinoleic acid may help reduce the chronic inflammatory environment that endometrial tissue creates — not eliminating it, but supporting the body's ability to manage it more gently over time.

Lymphatic Support & Pelvic Congestion

One of the most significant features of endometriosis is pelvic congestion — a buildup of inflammatory compounds, hormonal metabolites, and stagnant fluid in the pelvic region. Castor oil is traditionally associated with supporting lymphatic movement — helping the body move what it needs to clear toward the liver for processing. Consistently applied over the lower abdomen and lower back, castor oil packs may help address this congestion as part of a broader approach to pelvic health.

Liver Support & Oestrogen Clearance

Endometriosis is an oestrogen-dependent condition — endometrial tissue grows in response to oestrogen and shrinks when oestrogen levels fall. The liver is the primary site of oestrogen metabolism and clearance. When liver function is compromised, oestrogen metabolites may recirculate rather than being excreted — which can worsen oestrogen-driven conditions. Castor oil packs over the liver area are traditionally used as a supportive complementary practice alongside medical care.

This is why the liver placement is included alongside the abdominal placements — addressing the hormonal root, not just the local symptoms.

Pain & the Nervous System

Endometriosis is also a nervous system condition. Chronic pain rewires the nervous system — creating a state of heightened sensitivity where the body braces for pain it has learned to expect. The warmth, stillness, and intentional rest of a castor oil pack ritual engages the parasympathetic nervous system — the state in which the body heals and restores. Practised consistently, this signals safety to a nervous system that has been in a state of alert for years.

Hormonal Balance

When the liver is supported, oestrogen clearance improves — which may reduce the oestrogenic environment that drives endometrial tissue growth. This is the connection that runs through our pages on Liver Support, PCOS/PMOS, and Period Pain.

Castor Oil Pack
How to Use Your Castor Oil Pack for Endometriosis

The method.

What you will need
100% Cold Pressed Castor Oil
100% Undyed & Unbleached Cotton Flannel
A hot water bottle or electric heating pad
A comfortable, quiet place to lie down
Primary Placement — Pelvic & Uterine Support

Pelvic & uterine support

Place your hand flat just below the navel. Where your hand ends, the area from just below to above the pubic bone — is where your pack will sit. This is where the uterus and ovaries are located. Use between periods, not during periods — consistent use in the weeks between cycles is where the benefit builds.

Placement 2 — Optional — Lower Back

Pelvic & back pain relief

Many women with endometriosis experience significant lower back pain — particularly during their cycle. Use between periods, not during periods — consistent use in the weeks between cycles is where the benefit builds. Place the pack over the lower back — the area just above the tailbone. Many people alternate between the lower abdomen and lower back on different evenings.

Placement 3 — Optional — Liver

Oestrogen clearance

Place your hand flat against the right side of your chest so your pinky finger aligns with the very bottom edge of your ribcage. Your hand is now resting exactly over your liver. Position your castor oil pack right there — directly over those lower ribs. A standard-sized pack will naturally be large enough to cover the lower right ribs and drape slightly down into the upper right quadrant of your abdomen. Use on the same or alternating evenings as the breast placement.

How to apply
01
Pour two to three tablespoons of cold pressed castor oil directly onto the chosen placement area.
02
Massage gently for a minute or two. This is not a deep massage — just enough to let the oil settle into the skin before the flannel is placed.
03
Lay your undyed, unbleached cotton flannel over the oiled area. Fold any remaining flannel back over itself — this keeps the hot water bottle clean and helps contain the warmth.
04
Place your hot water bottle or electric heating pad on top of the flannel.
05
Lie down and rest for at least 30 minutes per session — many people extend to 45 or 60 minutes as the practice becomes part of their routine. This is when the body does its best work.

You may also keep the pack on overnight without heat — simply the flannel resting over the placement area as you sleep.

Using multiple placements? Additional flannel pieces are available.

If you are trying to conceive, check our Fertility page to know when to apply castor oil pack.

For best results, use at least three times per week — many people find four or five times fits naturally as the ritual becomes part of their evening. Endometriosis responds to consistency over time. This is not a one-month practice.

When to Use

A few things to keep in mind.

Between periods, not during periods — castor oil packs work best when used consistently between menstrual cycles, not during periods. Use throughout the follicular and luteal phases — this is when the underlying inflammation that drives the condition is being set in motion. Avoid use during periods. Resume after your period ends and continue through the cycle
On an empty stomach — apply at least two hours after a meal for best comfort.
For women - do not use castor oil packs over the abdomen and lower back during active menstruation, throughout pregnancy and if you are trying to concieve. During pregnancy and while nursing, you may use on other areas after you have consulted your healthcare provider first. Check fertility page for information on when you can apply and pause use on abdomen and lower back. If you are undergoing IVF or IUI — do not use castor oil packs, particularly on lower abdomen and lower back.
Year-round — endometriosis is a chronic condition. This is a long-term practice. Consistency over months is where the benefit lives.
A Note for First-Time Users

Begin with shorter sessions of 20 to 30 minutes and observe how your body responds before extending to longer sessions. Perform a patch test on a small area of skin at least 24 hours before your first full use. Discontinue if any irritation or adverse reaction occurs.
