Castor Oil Packs

Ovarian cysts.
Breast cysts.
More common

connected than
most are told.
A cyst is a fluid-filled sac that the body forms in response to hormonal imbalance, inflammation, blocked ducts, or lymphatic congestion. They are not random. They are the body's response to an environment that has become disrupted — and they are far more common than most women are told.
Ovarian cysts are among the most common gynaecological findings in women of reproductive age — most are benign, and most are directly linked to hormonal imbalance, particularly oestrogen dominance and the disrupted ovulation patterns associated with PCOS/PMOS. Breast cysts are similarly common — particularly in women in their 30s and 40s — and are also frequently driven by oestrogen dominance and poor lymphatic drainage in the breast tissue and surrounding lymph nodes.
What connects them is not coincidence. It is the same hormonal and lymphatic environment — an environment that castor oil packs, used consistently, may help address at the root.
A well-supported liver and a well-moving lymphatic system are the foundation of cyst support.
Important before you begin
Any new lump, mass, or change in breast tissue must be evaluated by a qualified healthcare provider before beginning any complementary practice. This applies without exception. Castor oil packs for breast cysts are a complementary practice only — they do not replace medical evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment.

Castor oil recorded in one of the oldest known medical texts in the world — used externally for its wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and detoxifying properties. The use of castor oil for growths and accumulations in the body is among its oldest documented applications.

Ovarian and breast cysts are among the most widely discussed applications of castor oil packs in the global wellness community — with women sharing their experience of using both local and liver placements alongside their medical monitoring and care.

How castor oil packs work.
Used consistently and explored in modern research, castor oil packs may offer the following for those navigating ovarian or breast cysts — as a gentle, complementary practice used alongside proper medical care.
Cyst formation is closely associated with chronic low-grade inflammation — a state in which the body's normal fluid and cellular processes become disrupted. Castor oil's primary active compound — ricinoleic acid — has been widely noted for its natural anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Applied consistently over the affected area, ricinoleic acid may help reduce the inflammatory environment that contributes to cyst formation and persistence over time.
One of the most significant contributors to both ovarian and breast cysts is lymphatic congestion — a buildup of stagnant fluid, inflammatory compounds, and hormonal metabolites in the pelvic and breast regions. The lymphatic system is responsible for draining this fluid and clearing it toward the liver for processing. When lymphatic flow is sluggish, fluid accumulates — and cysts can form. Castor oil is traditionally associated with supporting lymphatic movement, helping the body move what it needs to clear more efficiently.
Both ovarian and breast cysts are strongly associated with oestrogen dominance — a state in which oestrogen is not being cleared efficiently by the liver. The liver is the primary site of oestrogen metabolism. When it is functioning well, excess oestrogen is processed and eliminated. When it is overburdened, oestrogen recirculates — creating the hormonal environment in which cysts are more likely to form and persist. Supporting the liver is the most important systemic step in addressing oestrogen-driven cysts.
The liver placement is included alongside the local placements on this page for exactly this reason — addressing the hormonal root, not just the local symptom.
Castor oil packs are thought to support circulation in the areas to which they are applied — bringing increased blood flow and nutrient delivery to the affected tissues while helping to move stagnant fluid. For ovarian cysts, this may support healthier follicle development and ovulation. For breast cysts, improved circulation in the breast tissue and axillary lymph nodes may support the body's natural ability to reabsorb fluid-filled cysts over time.
Chronic stress elevates cortisol — which worsens hormonal imbalance, increases inflammation, and slows lymphatic drainage. All of these contribute to cyst formation and persistence. The ritual of a castor oil pack — warmth, stillness, intentional rest — engages the parasympathetic nervous system, the state in which the body heals and restores. Practised consistently, it creates the physiological conditions in which the body's natural resolution processes can work more efficiently.
The method.
For Ovarian Cysts
Place your hand flat just below the navel. Where your hand ends — the area from just below the navel down to just above the pubic bone — is where your pack will sit. This is where the uterus and ovaries are located.
Place your hand flat against the right side of your chest so your pinky finger aligns with the very bottom edge of your ribcage. Your hand is now resting exactly over your liver. Position your castor oil pack right there — directly over those lower ribs. A standard-sized pack will naturally be large enough to cover the lower right ribs and drape slightly down into the upper right quadrant of your abdomen.
For Breast Cysts
Apply one to two tablespoons of cold pressed castor oil directly onto the breast — over the area where the cyst is located. Place your undyed, unbleached cotton flannel gently over the oiled area. Do not apply heat to the breast. Body heat is sufficient. Rest with the flannel in place for 20 to 30 minutes.

Any new lump, mass, or change in breast tissue must be evaluated by a qualified healthcare provider before beginning any complementary practice. This applies without exception. Castor oil packs for breast cysts are a complementary practice only — they do not replace medical evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment.
You may also keep the liver pack on overnight without heat — simply the flannel resting over the liver area as you sleep. Do not use the breast placement overnight.
Using multiple placements? Additional flannel pieces are available.
For best results, use at least three times per week — many people find four or five times fits naturally as the ritual becomes part of their evening. Cyst support is built through consistency over several months, not a single session.
A few things to keep in mind.
Begin with shorter sessions of 20 to 30 minutes and observe how your body responds before extending to longer sessions. Perform a patch test on a small area of skin at least 24 hours before your first full use. Discontinue if any irritation or adverse reaction occurs.
Castor oil packs are a traditional wellness practice and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or replace medical care for cysts or any related condition. If you have been diagnosed with a cyst or any reproductive condition, are taking medication, or are under medical supervision, please consult your healthcare provider before incorporating castor oil packs into your routine. Do not use during pregnancy or while nursing without first consulting your healthcare provider. This page is for informational and educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice.
